Review: Im not sure why people are putting this movie down. My family came away happy, my son is still mentioning how funny it was.I wont go into detail like most, all I will say is that the whole theater was laughing hard and loud throughout most of the movie, which is what most people want when they go see a comedy, to laugh NOT think.For those that already know Melissa McCarthy, you know what to expect and you will not be disappointed. Add Susan and Kathy and I dont see how you can go wrong. I really think people are putting too many expectations on this.If you dont know Melissa McCarthy then you must live under a rock lol. But still it is funny so just enjoy it like my whole family did!

Review: Spike Lees reimagining of the Park Chan-Wook cult classic Oldboy is a queer creature despite the notable absence of the originals iconic octopus-slurping scene. Those unfamiliar with Parks original, which itself was based on a late 1990s Japanese manga, will likely find it bizarre and even off-putting; and yet those who have seen and loved Parks 2004 Cannes Gran Prix winner are likely to dismiss this as mild and underwhelming compared to the original. But most of all, there is something distinctly Asian in the tales themes of revenge and solitude that feel an odd and therefore unsatisfying fit for an Americanised reinterpretation.Yes, to call Lees version a remake will be – if you take the filmmakers words for it – akin to blasphemy. According to Lee, he and his writer Mark Protosevich had not sought to remake Parks movie; rather, they have returned to the manga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi to shape a similar yet somewhat different story that keeps the essential baroque details intact. And so the setup is the same – a cold- blooded businessman is drugged and held captive in a windowless hotel room for 20 years, before being let out in a suitcase in the middle of a field.The ever dependable character actor Josh Brolin plays the titular character named Joe Doucett, which we are introduced to as a boozy advertising executive who blows a make-or-break deal by propositioning his clients wife at the very meeting. His sentence for the next two decades while in captivity includes watching a ripped off version of Americas Most Wanted where he is held as the prime suspect for his ex-wifes murder, in between being fed the daily news as well as Chinese dumplings. The question upon his release is not who, but why – as District 9s Sharlto Copley plainly puts to him after revealing himself very early into the movie as Joes captor – which forms the core of the mystery behind his unusual circumstance.Joe is aided in his subsequent quest for punishment and redemption by a bartender friend (The Sopranos Michael Imperioli) as well as a kind- hearted social worker (Elizabeth Olsen). He has a timeline too – Copley threatens to kill his daughter in the next 48 hours if he fails to figure out his identity as well as the reason for his imprisonment. Neither should be unfamiliar to those who have seen Parks version; indeed, despite what Lee and Protosevich claim, they have only sought to vary the details from their predecessor.So instead of an exercise in dentistry when Joe confronts the caretaker of his prison (Samuel L. Jackson), we are treated to an equally grotesque sequence where he slices bits of skin from off the mans throat. Instead of gobbling an octopus live and whole, Joe merely stares hard at the animal in a restaurant aquarium. And perhaps most significantly, Joe gets to restage the original films iconic extended sequence where his character takes on an entire army of thugs with no more than a claw hammer and pure rage - a three and a half minute scene rehearsed for six weeks which to Lees credit, loses none of its predecessors visceral thrills. Notwithstanding the distinct sense of familiarity with the proceedings, there is just something lost in translation. Parks original was the second and perhaps most famous instalment of his Vengeance Trilogy whose exploration of redemption and salvation was firmly set against a unique cultural context; unfortunately, the motivations for Joes imprisonment lack that dramatic heft when yanked out of that context, especially since the inherent familial concepts make much more sense within an Asian setting. Lee also does himself little favour by undermining an otherwise grim and thoughtful story with cartoonish elements, most notably Jacksons garish performance (complete with blonde ponytail we may add) as Joes chief jailer turned tormentor.Thankfully, Brolin anchors the titular role with his compelling presence, built on a single-minded embrace of his characters vengeance. Review: The fine cast assembled for this film makes me wonder what they saw in the script. Was it a matter of one actor signing on, and others wanting to work with him (I say him because the only female in the film is Zoe Saldana, in a one-dimensional and thankless role). Was it that the director used to be an actor and knows all these people? Was it because he had success with Crazy Heart?Other reviews basically already touch on the problems here: it means nothing. I wanted to like the film, but I walked out of the theater not knowing what I had just seen (the ending is confusing, ridiculous, and poorly done). The film takes itself far too seriously to get away with just being entertaining, and when you dont have a clue what the whole point of the movie was, thats a bad thing. Things happen in the film without really coming together and create a cohesive narrative where you feel that theres any growth or direction. Perhaps thats the intent, but any theme or themes were underdeveloped and not apparent. I find the comparisons to Deerhunter insulting, personally.The actors do a fine job, although I feel there is some miscasting in the movie. Would Forest Whitaker really be able to attract Zoe Saldana? Nothing in the movie gave me any reason to think they had a believable relationship. Frankly, nothing in the film convinced me that Saldana would even stay in a town like Braddock. Bale is good, as is Affleck and Harrelson, but I didnt really connect with anyone except Afflecks character. Definitely a missed opportunity and a disappointment.

Review: I saw the original back in 2006 and absolutely loved it and its sequel. I had high expectations for this purely because I always wished they had made a third and when I saw Paul Walker was involved I had hoped this remake would be on par or better. Unfortunately I was wrong. While Brick Mansions is not a terrible film my viewing was ruined due to my love of the first one which this is almost a shot for shot copy of. My love of the French original may have set the bar too high it seems. Also my only major personal gripe is the voice dubbing of David belle. For some reason it struck a nerve with me and I could never really appreciate any scene. If youre looking for a good way to blow 2 hours or havent seen the original by all means go see it but for myself this was just not what I had expected. Solid 6/10.

Review: This is the first review ive ever written ever. I do not subscribe to movie reviews - all. I love movies. It seems to me that the great assessors simply do not like the movies. Instead of intelligent reviewers anyway. They seem to be more concerned about how they look, their readers by pretending that they know anything about the movie. The reviewers are writers who want to be something, maybe directors and believes that it is incredibly trendy and smart to break up and decrypt the hard work of others; I hate systems. They all seem to be that the idea that they know better, and I I have some time to myself right themselves important, pretentious nonsense thinly disguised as a public service type. Heads up: this is not a service to be condescending or insulting. With that said, I Now get out of my self-righteous soapbox and say that the White House Down is a bloody good time with a big time frame DC (so it looks attractive, exciting place to be, not hot and smelly dumpster it really is ... seriously, the place smells like a container), in the face of action, fine performances - Jamie Foxx is pretty cool, as the leader of the free world - a bad guy that you just can not wait to watch die (there are some bad guys in this movie so Im not counting the spoilers), and a pretty good hero John Kale.Now movie gets so long, which is only on if you are a smoker affair, like me, in the middle of the third act I was craving pretty hard, and there are some silly lines of dialogue from one action sequences that do not seem to fit the characters, but whatever.White house down is fun and intense action film, I would like to see again. 8 of 10!
